Popular Internet Types

There are several cable internet types out there that you can consider. You have to think about your budget, how often you will use the internet, and of course the speed of your connection. Most people want something that is very fast to make online surfing easier.

Dial Up
Also known as analog, this is one of the early cable internet types. It involves your computer dialing a phone number to connect. There are limited connections, so there may be times when your connection can’t be completed, or you get disconnected while online. There is also the fact that it ties up your phone line. You can’t call anyone and when they try to call you, they will get a busy signal as long as you are online.

DSL
One of the faster cable internet types is DSL. This doesn’t tie up your phone line, either, so you can make or get a call while you are connected to the internet. It is also very fast. Most of the providers don’t charge you by the time of use but rather you pay one flat fee for a monthly use of the internet no matter how often you are using it.

Cable Internet
Many cable providers have also gotten involved with offering internet. They run it through the modem. They often have packages that offer cable, internet, and phone services, too. This type of package offer can be less expensive than paying for each of these services separately.

Satellite Internet
The use of satellite internet continues to increase in popularity. This type of cable internet type uses a satellite that is circling the Earth in orbit for the connection. It is at a fixed point, but it isn’t as fast as DSL, due to the distance of travel for the connection. Still, it can be an option in remote locations where a person can’t get other types of internet services.
