High speed DSL Internet connectivity is one of the most popular methods of connecting to the Internet among high speed broadband Internet connections. Unlike high speed cable Internet connection, which uses the TV cable as a method of connecting to the Internet, high speed DSL facilitates Internet connectivity with the means of phone based landline cabling, a twisted pair of copper wires that are otherwise already installed in most residential areas.
When connecting to the Internet using high speed DSL connection, the phone line becomes the medium by which the connection is established to the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and in this way data is transferred using the same cabling that would otherwise serve for landline phone connectivity. Similarly to high speed cable connections, DSL connections share the same line with another commonly used utility.
Unlike its phone based Internet connection predecessor, the dial-up, high speed DSL connection offers the benefit of being able to use both the Internet and the phone line in the same time, without affecting each other’s performance of functionality. This feature has been extremely beneficial especially in the case of businesses where dial-up has proven to be a problem when both Internet connection and phone conversations were required in order to carry out certain communication related tasks.
High speed DSL Internet connections can offer impressive bandwidth speeds, especially in the case in which you are close to the central server of the ISP that facilitates Internet connection services. Also, in many cases, already existing phone lines can be used to install all that is required to connect to the Internet using high speed DSL, meaning that the cost to implement this type of connection have proven to be sustainable by most home users.
In most areas, alongside cable modems, DSL is considered to be a standard for broadband technologies. Most modern DSL connections are now offering bandwidth speeds surrounding an average of 2.048 Mbit/s, making them as reliable and as fast as cable based modem connection. High speed DSL Internet connection is also identified, in many cases, with the Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN), one of the first broadband digital access methods implemented in the consumer market.
